The old Gospel hymn reminds us that being out on the “perilous deep”, we must be aware of our situation and circumstance. Being careless for even a moment, and not recognizing the seriousness of our predicament, could lead to disaster.
Tragically, many in the church today are in as serious a quandary because of a lack of Biblical knowledge, as at any other time since the Reformation.
False teachers, doctrinal error, and spiritual wickedness is more rampant in our generation than any other time. There are pastors and teachers speaking out against this spiritual warfare in which the church is engaged. Typical sermon topics from false teachers are heavily weighted in favor of ‘man-centered’ messages. One needs only turn on Christian radio or television and he will hear the man centered message in the loudest of terms.
What is the church to do?
In this time of our current church history, there is great music, tremendous electronically engineered presentations, but very little substance. And who would know the difference?
If the church is not engrossed in teaching the Word of God and presenting the Gospel with solid Biblical exegesis, then members will lack any discernment and will toe-tap their religious experience by just ‘a jamming on their tunes, but with out any true repentance and yearning to be drawn closer to Christ.
There are those teaching messages that abandon moral values. Throw into the mix terrorists who are under no law and the whole situation immediately changes. A terrorist hides by pretending to be other than that which they are, taking gross opportunities to blend into an ‘open’ society or group in which they plan to attack.
Yet spiritual terrorists have infiltrated the church and are planning to destroy it. Unhindered, because of a lack of Biblical knowledge and spiritual discernment, they have invaded churches, seminaries and Christian colleges.
Jude 17-23, makes it perfectly clear that God is sovereign and He has not lost control. God is not surprised by this current development, for He had foretold these things.
So dear children of God, be careful of those who would have you drift too far from the shore into a perilous storm of apostasy and errant doctrinal teaching.
Read the Word of God; pray unceasingly; fellowship with those who hunger and thirst for the righteousness that only Christ Jesus imparts.
The light of His Word will keep you in perfect peace and security, much like the light of the Lighthouse will bring you safely to His haven of rest.
